Chocolate Hills

I had a hearty breakfast at Bohol Divers Resort in Alona Beach, Panglao Island because this is going to be a busy day. My itinerary for this day includes visit to Chocolate Hills, then lunch in a ferry touring Loboc River and a tour around the province of Bohol.

Our first stop is the Chocolate Hills. It took us almost an hour and a half from Panglao to
Carmen, Bohol where portions of the hills are located. Although it is a long drive, you won't get bored of the road side sceneries which includes the man-made forest, Loboc River and Nipa/Coconut plantations.

Once you have reached Carmen, you have to climb a stair of about 200 steps to reach the top of one of the hills. A beautiful marker (shown below) shall greet you.

On the observation deck atop the hill, the view is definitely breath-taking.

And once you are there, there is really nothing much to do but to enjoy the scenery and beauty of the place. And of course, you need to capture the moment so almost everyone there are snapping here and taking photos there. HOwever, if you forgot to bring your digitals, the place has a photo studio where you can have your shots taken and you can have a souvenir shots in a matter of minutes. These shots even includes gimmick shots such as this one:

Let these pictures speak for themselves:

You could find lots of stories and facts about these hills on the net so let me just give you some of them.

The Chocolate Hills are considered Bohol's most famous tourist attraction. It is included in the 8 Wonders of the World. It may be hard to believe but these are not man-made. It consist about 1,268 hills which are very uniform in shape and mostly between 30 and 50 metres high. They are covered with grass, which, at the end of the dry season, turns chocolate brown. Thus the monicker "Chocolate Hills".

So, when in Bohol, go visit Chocolate Hills. I assure you guys that it is worth the trip.

  3. Chocolate Hill, what a place. It is nice but different. One of a kind. There is none like that here in Canada, nor in Europe. I did enjoy my trip, and never will know when the time may come that I will ever get back there again.
