WAT YAI CHAYA MONGKOL - The Great Temple of Auspicious Victory - derived its name from the Chedi built to commemorate the renowned victory of "King Naresuan The Great" over the massive Burmese invasion in 1593. Located in the old Capital City of Ayutthaya, it is also the home of the famous Reclining Buddha.Here as some of the pics I have taken from the temple:
In my last day in Thailand, I headed to Ayutthaya - the former capital of Thailand. This is where the Wat Yai Chaya Mongkol or The Great Temple of Auspicious Victory is located.With the establishment of Atutthaya as the capital city in 1350, King U-thong proclaimed this temple the "royal" temple. At that time, it bore the name "Wat Chao Phya Thai". The temple had been the place of many historical events. It was the seat of the Buddhist patriarchs and monks of the Forest Tradition (Aranyavasi School). which was noted for the practice of meditation and insight.

ReplyDeleteAyutthaya is one of the paces I would like to visit in Thailand, as well as Chang Mai and Krabi. Dami mo rin pala nalibot dun.
