There is something about Cape Bojeador Lighthouse that is spooky. Maybe because it is old, or maybe it is isolated, or maybe because the weather that time gloomy. But one thing for sure, even if the place is a bit eerie, this Lighthouse is definitely a must place to visit and include if you are touring Ilocos.
Cape Bojeador Lighthouse is located at the Municipality of Burgos, Ilocos Norte and holds the distinction of being the highest elevated lighthouse in the Philippines. It was built in 1890s and is considered a heritage structure.
The caretaker of the place was kind enough to let me go up the tower and boy, climbing it ain't that easy with its rusty, slippery metal spiraling stairs plus the heavy blowing of the wind can be felt thru the open windows of the lighthouse (and of course, the eerie feeling of what if there is a ghost in there is also playing at the back of my mind). But once you are at the top, the view is just spectacular.
Here are some photos I have taken of the lighthouse:

The lighthouse looked similar to the one which was used to film this Pinoy gay movie "Ang Lalake Sa Parola". I saw the trailer and both lighthouses resembled each other.
ReplyDeleteAnd through the photos I can imagine how eerie you must've felt talaga!
i really love lighthouses. and you show us a very beautiful and mysterious one. great atmosphere. thanks for shared
ReplyDeleteganda ng pagkakakuha mo=)
ReplyDeleteagain, good shots mr. lawstude...
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures! I saw this lighthouse once about 6 years ago. I have no pictures to post in my blog as the digital camera at that time is yet "popular" if ever it exists :)
ReplyDeletethe lighthouse seemed well-maintained. sana laging ganun. many other lighthouses are left deteriorating.
ReplyDeleteoman, tell you the truth, it's haunted. i thought i was the only one who noticed but one of my companions on an ilocos roadtrip eons ago said she saw something in the museum near the stairs leading to the light chamber
ReplyDeleteIlocos Norte ito no?

Very lovely photos and the history interesting. The inside of the lighthouse looked very interesting.
ReplyDeleteHello Guys, Thank you for all your comments. Just got back from a weekend in the Hundred Islands. I'll post some pics of the place soon.
ReplyDelete@ kyels - I have not seen the film yet but Bojeador is really one of the most scenic lighthouses in the Philippines like that one in Bolinao so I am sure there are lots of films being shot there.
Personally thou, I think this lighthouse is perfect for a horror movie.
@ evlahos - this lighthouse is one of the five lighthouses in my country that are hailed scenic. i am just lucky to have visited the place.
ReplyDelete@ dra rio - salamat doc. maganda lang talaga yung place.
ReplyDelete@ kris jasper van dyke - talagang pinangatawanan na natin ang man dyke lols. dapat may monseur "MONSEUR KRIS JASPER VAN DYKE". thanks for liking the shots.
ReplyDelete@ kegler747 - thanks carlo. six years ago all we really have were filmed camera and we are bit excited pa on how the shots will turn up because we don't have previews.
ReplyDeleteif only digicams were available a decade ago, i would have filled this blog with lots more pictures.
on the brighter side, i would have to go back to the places i have been just take photos of these wonderful places.
@ r-yo - i agree panyero. this the caretaker saod that a large portion of the maintenance here comes from donations of tourists in these places. so if we want our children and the future generation to see the place, little donations could help a lot.
ReplyDelete@ lagal[og] - bai oggie, talaga? i have not seen anything although i could feel that i am not alone in that place.
ReplyDeletesabi kasi ng matatanda pag kinilabutan ka daw eh merong ibang elemento sa lugar, and i felt just like that.
@ richard the adventurer - yup. it is in Burgos, Ilocos Norte and you will pass this tower when you go to Pagudpud.
ReplyDelete@ the dong - other than the lighthouse in Bolinao, I really can't recall if I have gone to a lighthouse when i was younger.
ReplyDeletei was surprised at the lightbulb too. such a big lightbulb.
ReplyDeletemulto? oo nga no.
@ madbong - thnx. i believe meron nga ghost dun. kung di ko man nakita eh naramdaman mo naman.
ReplyDelete@ selerines - thank you sir. glad u like it.
ReplyDelete@ josh of arabia - wow. big words. thanks.
:-p
@ luna miranda - i am really sorry, i am not really that familiar with cloud 9. let me get back to you on this one.
ReplyDeletebut that is quite an experience and i won't hesitate to climb it again basta may araw pa.
@ coldman - should i wear my courtroom suit of barong tagalog and stand at the parola while it is full moon? ganda nga nun.
ReplyDelete@ kitem - the view is indeed magnificent. you can sea the shoreline, the mountains and the sea.
ReplyDeletethanks for the tag, i'll try to play it in my next posts.
@ alex - you are welcome. i bet you'll climb one if you see one.
ReplyDeleteby the way, welcome back.
@ alicesg - i always wonder what the inside of a lighthouse looks like. now i wonder no more. just happy to share these pics.
ReplyDeletevery nice pics and to think that this structure was built in the 1800's and still standing is a testament to the engineering skills in those days when there were no computers :)
ReplyDeletepunta kaming pangasinan this weekend. hopefully makadaan din kami sa bolinao. want to see this lighthouse
ReplyDeleteLawstude,kamusta>
@ bw - i agree, these structures were really built to weather all storms and other calamities.
ReplyDelete@ random ramblings - maybe you are referring to the cape bolinao lighthouse few posts back. you should check it in patar although we were not allowed to enter and climb the lighthouse.
ReplyDeletedi ko naintindihan yung iba salita sa markings eh pero as a whole alam ko na that is an honor for the century old lighthouse.
Hello, I love the lighthouse... i dont know whats with the lighthouses but they usually amaze me...wish makapunta din ako jan!
ReplyDeleteHi Atty! Joj here...nice shots! I hope I can visit the place also....I think that lighthouse was featured in the show of migz zubiri...If I remember it right, the current caretaker is the grandson of the previous caretaker...I hope I can visit Pagudpud din...but before that I want to visit Calayan Island and Palaui Island in Cagayan...basta sa may Sta. ANa. hihi... I heard its more beautifil than Bora (accdg. to Mayor Delfino Ting of Tuguegarao)...
ReplyDeleteWOW!
ReplyDeleteLove these shots.
The picture of the two windows are well worth framing. Great! :)
