Boracay boasts a number of small to medium sized caves scattered along the island and I have explored two of its more famous ones.
Bat Cave, located on the northern tip of the island is probably the most visited. As the name implies, this cave is home to bats some of which have wingspan of almost four feet. It rained in the morning I went there so I could only make it halfway the cave just enough for me to take some photos of the cave's opening as well as some photos of the the stalactite and stalagmite formations inside. Too bad, the only bats I saw were small ones.
Crystal Cave is just a few minutes walk from the Bat Cave. This one is bigger and much easier to navigate because the rocks here are not that sharp although more slippery. This cave got its name because the rocks here glisten when you point your flashlight on its beautiful formations. The view from inside the cave is just amazing and you can use your imagination while musing at the various shapes of stalactites and stalagmites located therein.
very interesting shots ! Looks like there's danger lurking inside those creepy holes :( Nice pics :)

ReplyDeletewow, i didn't know there are caves in boracay! the top photo is beautiful. these caverns probably lead to the mysterious heart of bora.:D
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots. The best way for a claustrophobic person to explore caves is through your wonderful photography. Thanks for the tour.
ReplyDeleteI don't particularly like caves... and for sure not the ones with bats and snakes...
ReplyDeleteYou are brave... you didn't encountered the Batman? ;-)
@ bw - reviewing these pics when i got home gave me the creeps. but hey, i do have a sense of accomplishment/fullfillment because these things don't happen often.
ReplyDelete@ selerines - thanks. hope to see even photos of kodaikanal mountains.
ReplyDelete@ borneo falcon - me too. there is something exciting yet mysterious in caves.
ReplyDelete@ lilli & nevada - thank you for liking these shots. knowing that you appreciate them made going there worthwhile.
ReplyDelete@ luke wiley - it is much better in the summer coz it is raining when i go there and it is quite slippery.
ReplyDelete@ alicesg - welcome back and i am sure you have some great shots and stories about KL.
ReplyDelete@ rio - doc nakakatakot pero exciting kasi parang expect the unexpected and dating.
@ luna miranda - talagang there are more in boracay than the beaches. alternative adventure talaga ito sa isang paraisong lugar.
ReplyDelete@ hilary - you are very much welcome. really just happy to share these photos and i hope i could do a second part on these same cave 'coz i do have lots of photos taken specially on the crystal cave.
ReplyDelete@ sidney - lols. no batman. not even spiderman or zuma. but i have seen bats, spiders, snakes and bugs inside.
ReplyDeleteinteresting side trip oman. it's good you feature these off-the-beaten tracks aspects of this place. people need to see there's more to boracay than the white beach :-D

ReplyDeleteWhere's Batman? I love your new collage header :)
ReplyDeleteHuwaw. Great adventure. I would love to explore these caves. Mahilig ako sa mga kweba eh.
ReplyDelete@ the dong - basta text or e-mail or comment mo lang dito kung ano yun dom at sali ako basta kaya.

ReplyDeleteexcept for the last 3 shots earmarked for law, yung lahat na yan kuha ko sa mga previous travels ko. glad u like it.
I wish they have real crystal, I could imagine the amount of extra pocket money I can make! ;)

ReplyDeleteanyways, masaya talaga mag-spelunking. full of surprises at hindi unpredictable. tsaka may halong thrill.
Great and interesting set of photos!
ReplyDeleteLS: Thanks for taking us along with you exploring the caves. Those were some wonderful captures inside the caves. I don't like bats.
ReplyDeletegreat internal shots of the cave. last time i was there, the dirt road leading to the cave was littered with so much garbage up to the vicinity before you go down the cave. that doesn't seem to be the case now. i hope they've taken cared of the surroundings.
ReplyDeleteThis is simply superb!
ReplyDeleteEach photo is a must.
ReplyDeleteI will tell you right up front that I am not a fan of caves.....but your photos are awesome! I have been in a few caves and my admiration knows no bounds for those that entered them first but I can not imagine anything scarier!!!! Did the bat cave stink?
ReplyDeleteUn abrazo
Oh, wow! Awesome photos of this cave!
ReplyDeletePaz
@ share my point of view - haha. i would also have the same wish. and if ever i got rich, i will do nothing but travel and i will invite everyone who wants to come with me.
ReplyDelete@ bluedreamer27 - thanks you and welcome to my blog. i'll check out your blog also so count me in.
ReplyDelete@ the islander - agree ako dyan JP, iba ang feeling ng nasa loob ng kweba at iniexplore mo yun. exciting talaga.
ReplyDeleteok lang yung di ka nakakadalaw madalas. just do what you have to do. work muna para may panglibot lols.
@ john - thanks.
ReplyDelete@ fishing guy - when my guide told me that the bats in there are as big as eagles, i got mixed feelings because i wanna see it but at the same time i am a bit afraid because they are scary animals. too bad i didn't see one 'coz they are deep within the cave and it was really slippery and dangerous to go that far.
ReplyDelete@ eye in the sky - it's cleaner now. maybe because it is not peak season. there are only two groups of us when i visit the place.
ReplyDelete@ ferreira-pinto - thanks quint.
ReplyDelete@ redlan - talagang sinulit lang pagpunta doon at halos di na nga ako nakapagpahinga eh lols.
ReplyDelete@ neva - caves indeed connotes the unknown so some really are scared to enter. the bat cave stink a bit but not too strong because the smell of the forests also blends with the athmosphere of the cave.
ReplyDelete@ george - gracias senor.
ReplyDelete@ paz - thanks. hope i could post some more photos of the cave soon.
ReplyDelete@ my-so-called-quest - uy doc musta? tagal u nawala ah. salamat sa pagdalaw.
ReplyDeleteI literally slide my way down here.-->ouch! ingat next time kuya oman! you've been through a lot just to share these pics. hehe.
ReplyDeleteand i must say you've done a great job in exploring the caves. gusto ko ring makapasok sa kweba, para kasing exciting and at the same time creepy. hehe
i've been to boracay twice, but never on these caves. i'm not fascinated with caves, but wife is. If she knows about this cave, she'll definitely include this in the schedule when we go to boracay again. hehe.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots! Love the first one especially. Caves are quite interesting, if not slightly creepy. :)

ReplyDelete@ twin - thanks.
ReplyDelete@ jules - these caves are bit hard to explore but i am sure there are caves around your area which are easier to navigate. exploring caves are truly both magical and mystical.
ReplyDeletethis caves look interesting places to visit.
ReplyDeleteThe caves look eerie. I wonder ho deep these caves are or if there are other inhabitants inside other than bats..I kno some pythons prefer living in caves also--have you seen some? Thanks for sharing this bro..
ReplyDeleteBeautiful interiors.
ReplyDelete;)
I explored a cave once and was really awed w/its interiors and how awesome the stalactites and stalagmites were.
this is certainly one area of Boracay we don't see that often. Thanks for sharing bro. I hope to visit them too one of these days
ReplyDeleteits great that you included other not so known spots in boracay. kind of bored with the usual sea and sand photos.
ReplyDelete
