One might wonder why join a contest such as Panagbenga Float Parade where the cost of building a competitive float made substantially with fresh flowers far outweigh the prize to be won. I gather that you need to at least have a hundred thousand budget to make a float and the prize to be won if ever your in first place is only half of that.
But then again, for some participants, it isn't about the prize money but the exposure that your product will have just by joining the parade. Some sort of advertising where your products will be viewed not only by hundred of consumers who watched the parade live but also by those consumers who will hear about the parade on tv, radio, print and specially on the net.
And if you are competitors like Dunkin Donut and Mister Donut, you certainly do not want to be left out and in fact, you really want to out do each other. And for the spectators of Panagbenga 2009, that is certainly a good thing because these two participants certainly delivered and have become crowd favorites specially for the children during the festivities.

Well, that what happening in Kuching .New trend I guess, as donut is getting popular here. Many flavors & colors of icing that attract more to kids.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day.
These parades are so lovely and beautiful. The way they used fresh flowers to decorate them is so creative and atttractive. Parades too attract tourists as well. The donuts looked too pretty. :)
ReplyDeletehahaha... nice catch. this is true. festivals in the philippines draws more crowds which also means that it will be commercialized. in this particular festival the donut floats are definitely a crowd getter.
ReplyDeleteMister Donut looks more cheerful :)
ReplyDeleteI also go for Mister Donut !
ReplyDeleteAmazing...looks really very elaborate!
But the Dunkin Donuts are looking delicious ! ;-)
never thought the donuts have a celebration :))! anyways, take care - they have lots of calories :))!
ReplyDeleteDunkin Donut is lovelier. Although Mister Donut has its charm too.

ReplyDeletewow, they look too good to eat! i didn't know flowers could look delicious as doughnuts! very creative, galing!
ReplyDeletei was at a panagbenga once and it was so much fun though it rained pretty much all through out the parade. it's an experience worth a tourist's journey...
ReplyDeleteKakagutom nga. Masarap yan na kasabay ng mainit na kape lalo na kung nasa Baguio ka.
ReplyDeletebetween those two? i choose dunkin donut. Sana edible yung mga donut decorations nila.

The Donut companies have indeed tried to outdo each other! I love your pictures, very colorful, sharp and vivid!
ReplyDeleteAre you using a Nikon?
Hi Norman! It seems you had a great time at the Festival, at least as far as we can see from the beautiful pictures... However, as for donuts, no thanks... ;))
ReplyDeleteLoved to see the colourfull street dancing pictures!
Meanwhile, the last of the beautiful Forts in Jaipur (you missed the Amber...) waits you and your comments at Blogtrotter: – The Nahargarh Fort! Enjoy and have a great week!
Awww, this is so cute! I think Dunkin' Donuts did well overall, but my heart goes to Mister Donut. Ang galing ng mga Smidgets ah! Sarap pag kukurutin, ehehe.

ReplyDeletehaha--talagang battle of donuts ha--
ReplyDeleteI thought dati Filipino company ang mister donut so I thought of supporting it. Di naman pala. Pero at least mura mga donuts nila so usually, yun ang binibili ko.
IMO, this commercialization of festivals robs away tradition. But then again we can't have our tradition without the support of these products. Just like the Ati-atihan festival in Kalibo, all you see, anywhere you look are those red banners of that soda drink.
ReplyDeleteLS: Really a neat show for the parade.
ReplyDeleteReminds me a little of the Rose Parade we have here in California on New Year's. I love the flowered floats and all of those wonderful colors. Great shots!
ReplyDelete:-)
DonG shared me your blog. Wonderful indeed! Love the pics, I was in Baguio during the festival too but I forgot my camera so my pictures wasn't that good ( pixelated =( )
ReplyDeleteKeep on writting!
Ang cute ng mga smidgets ng Mister Donut. Pero bukod sa float mas gusto ko pa tong mga local donuts na to kesa sa imported na KK at GD
ReplyDeleteHmmm. We don't have any Mister Donuts that I have ever seen in my part of the USA, but we do have Dunkin Donuts and I do love them, especially their coffee!
ReplyDeleteDunking Donuts are certainly not my favourite brand of donuts! But the Mr Donut mascots are so cute! : )
ReplyDeleteDunkin Donuts for me.
ReplyDeleteHello there, your blog surely took us to the festival and the battle of these donuts prove to be a beautiful and enteratining post for all of us.
