This is a pleasant surprise. Due to the insistent prodding of my office mate who is a Reader's Digest subscriber for years, I have sent one of my favorite shots to Reader's Digest Photo Contest for Unseen Asia. That was in October last year and I got an e-mail a few days after from the magazine staff that the photo I have submitted was being considered for publication. That was it. I totally forgot about the contest until a facebook friend today wrote on my wall that he saw my Benguet landscape shot in the April 2010 edition of Reader's Digest. I hurriedly checked Reader's Digest Website and to my surprise, my photo of the Hanging House in Ifugao won the Unseen Asia Photo Contest for April.
I was very ecstatic because this is the first time I won in a photo contest considering that it is also my first time to join and contribute in a photo contest. I bought a couple of issue (ok, ok i bought six lol) and the text in page 10 reads -

"En route to the UNESCO World Heritage site of the rice terraces in Ifugao, Philippines, Oman Serapio came across this awe-inducing sight: a hanging house by the edge of the road. Inspired by the contrast between the serene surroundings and the potentially perilous position of the house, Serapio snapped this photo to remember. He later found out that the house serves as a resting place for trekkers and hikers who are exploring the area."

I would like to thank my office mate, Miss Carmz, for bugging me to send my photo even during office hours haha. And of course, thank you Reader's Digest Asia for this wonderful gift.
