In line with the Peñafrancia Festival of Bicol, more particularly in Naga City, let me share twelve beautiful and historical churches located in Bicol. I have visited these churches on a couple of occasion that I have been there. The top photo is the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral which is one of the busiest church during the festival.
This year, the Bicolanos are celebrating the 300th year of Devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia. In 1710, Fray Miguel Robles de Covarubias brought the devotion to Bicol, Philippines. Many miracles happened and since then "Ina" became part of every Bicolano’s lives.
Daraga Church, Albay
Naga Cathedral, Camarines Sur
Tabaco Church, Albay
Malinao Church, Albay
Baao Church, Camarines Sur
Pili Church, Camarines Sur
Nuestra Senora de Penafrancia, naga City
Iriga Church, Camarines Sur
Nabua Church, Camarines Sur
Paracale Church, Canarines Norte
Tiwi Church, Albay
Most of these Churches have already been featured in detail, so feel free to browse my latter posts on these Churches.

ReplyDeleteWe just visited Basilica (in Naga) last Friday. Oh gawd, I was so amazed. It really transformed, it was way way different a year ago.
ReplyDeleteNabua church is also one-of-a kind. It's the first church I saw made entirely of orange brick. Cool!
Our church in Oas is 405 years old - hmm, worth mentioning!
I like Daraga church in particular kasi proportional yung bell tower sa main building nya. honestly kasi di ako fan ng mga churches na inappropriate ang laki ng bell churches---parang tao lang...pag napakalaki ng ulo at maliit ang katawan, pangit diba?hehehe
ReplyDeletemy mother is from bicol, and when i was young, we went there at least twice a year. i must admit though i haven't been to some of the churches you've featured.

ReplyDeleteany trip will never be complete without a visit to the church... =D
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Daraga on the foot of the hill where the church is situated. My childhood was spent playing near the church and watching the train coming from the foot of Mayon Volcano. So many great memories. But they changed part of the inside...modernized it. I think the only historical value now lies mainly on the church's facade. I am simply at awe at its ancient architecture. Yes, Daraga Church had retained most of its beauty.
