Heat

Heat @ d' Shang
It is a reinvention of the familiar and the favorites and a fusion of east and west. Although what I have pictured here are mainly appetizers and desserts (your blogger is too busy to eat), let me see if my recollection can be visualized through my words. But one thing for sure, a buffet at Heat, Edsa Shangri-La Manila is a gastronomic indulgence that is worthy to experience.
East Meets West
Hotel buffets are a tricky lot. Sure, the variety and the amount of food churned out by the kitchen are almost mind-boggling and always look mouth-watering. But having to serve all sorts of different cuisines to cater to guests of different palates can be a challenge - and in most cases the flavors simply do not rise to this culinary test. But it's not the case in Heat. At Edsa Shangri-La Manila's well-known all day dining restaurant, the well selected buffet elevates the familiar Filipino comfort food and favorite international cuisines to a memorable meal that will have you feeling like you have gone on a real food adventure and back, right at your table.

Indulgence
See how the food gets gussied up in several interactive open kitchen theater-style stations where you can dig in into the trays of fresh sushi and bowls of hot ramen for anyone craving Japanese; dimsum and Peking duck for those hankering for Chinese; or Italian, European, Indian, Korean and other Asian dishes, including of course, our homegrown Pinoy food.

Sweet Tooth
I started the evening tasting Japanese with a bowl of seafood egg-noodle in chicken broth, a couple of maki with the familiar wasabi dip and shrimp tempura with soy-ginger sauce. It was quickly followed by a combination of Indian and Grilled treats that include grilled lobsters, pork tenders, biryani rice and kebabs. My third plate include eggplant parmigiana and some tomato-based spanish stew. And since it was a seafood day, my fourth and last plate of main course include spicy prawns, baked seabass in mango citrus sauce and a couple of fresh oysters.

Dessert with a Twist
Of course, I reserved some more room for the ultimate indulgence - the desserts bar. Anyone with a sweet tooth will rejoice with the colorful choices, from deadly-looking cakes to single serving of sweet, creamy desserts. The pudding is one of the best and softest I have ever get to sink my teeth into. The Leche Flan with candied fruit toppings is also delectably sweet and of course, the rich dark chocolate mousse ended capped-up my delightful food adventure.

Appetizer
Heat at Edsa Shangri-La Manila is located at the Lobby Level of Tower Wing 1, Garden Way, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City and is open from 6 AM to 12 Midninght, Monday to Sunday. For reservations, you may call them at 633-8888 extension 2738 or 2739.

  7. that's really something. one has to come here totally completely from a fasting of more than 12 hours to be able to fill up, considering as you say the damage is quite tremendous.

i love the photos. how could you manage to shoot when the food is calling you?
