Life is a beach - a play on words, taken from "life's a ***** and then you die". Originally meaning life is not easy, or that indeed life is hard and in a bit of sarcasm depending on how it is used, it could mean the complete opposite, that life is a breeze.

Of Daet and Jose Rizal on Independence Day

Rizal's First Monument

Daet holds the distinction of having built the first Rizal Monument. Very much unlike most monuments which have Jose Rizal statue on it, the Daet landmark has a white three-sided spire with a square base, about twenty feet high made of coral stones. It is located in a small park just across the Daet town hall. It was erected by the people of Camarines Norte in honor of Dr. Jose Rizal on December 30, 1898, two years to the day after he way shot to death by colonial Spaniards in Bagumbayan in 1896.

With another approaching school year and the first typhoon (Ambo) paying us a visit, summer is officially over. But not in this blog where summer is just starting. Boracay will be revisited in the coming posts as well as a feature on a white beach of Poctoy. For now, let me share to you snapshots of a beach in Culasi, Antique with a view of Malalison and Batbatan Islands.
