When my sister chanced upon me browsing through my Malico Pine Forest pics, she said the place looked like a scene from the Twilight series. Well, I dunno if it is just me or if there is anybody else for that matter that can't relate but I never really followed that series. I mean, although I am aware that there is a Team Bella or Team Edward, I guess I have outgrown Count Dracula or the Teenage Warewolf, so the entire Twilight thing is a little alien to me.
Finding Dong Ho |
But if Malico Pine Forest could very well imbibe the eerie atmosphere of a vampire movie, then all the more, this is one great place to visit whenever you crave for that foggy feeling sans the fear of having your blood sucked.
Guard Dog |
Barangay Malico is about 10 kilometers from Imugan. You need to rent a jeep from Imugan that will lead you Barangay Salacsac which is the jump-off point for the trek up Malico Pine Forest. In Salacsac, you could check out the Strawberry Fields and other vegetable crops grown in the area. Too bad, that when we got there, the strawberries have just been harvested so the field is just bleak brown.
Dried Tiger Grass |
From Salacsac, it is about two kilometers trek to Malico on a dirt-path road. On a sunny day, you will have a refreshing view of the vegetable farm nearby and the Sta. Fe proper from afar.
Master Lagalog in Action |
On a clearer day, you could even see glimpse of Nueva Vizcaya and Pangasinan below but it will only be temporary because come midday, the path to the forest will be enveloped by fogs. You will literally feel the air brushing through your skin and all you will see will be the pine trees and other woods that will eventually be enveloped by fogs.
Siopaotonic's First Time |
The first time I went there was with Ferdz, Oggie and Erick where we had our lunch on the valley covered with dried pine leaves. This time, we went on the very same spot to find that nothing has really ever changed. I guess, in this part of the world, time ticks very slowly to the point of standing very still.
The Road |
With the recent exposures that Malico as well as Salacsac has been getting nowadays, it will only take time before backpackers as well as weekend travelers will flock the place. Hopefully though, the clean and peaceful ambiance of the place remain. And for the visitors, just remember to keep the place clean and leave nothing but awesome memories of your travel in the place.
View from Lying Down |
And by the way, I don't mind missing out on the Twilight series as long as I am traveling and going on places such as these.

ReplyDeleteDon't know much of anything about the Twilight thing, but I do know that I love your capture for the day, Oman! The foggy forest is awesome and mysteriously beautiful!! Hope you have a great week ahead!!
ReplyDeleteI keep laughing at the Twilight connection but the place really looks like the scene where Edward opens up to Bella. Beautiful place.
ReplyDeleteHi Sir, thank you always showing us places which are off-the beaten tracks.
ReplyDeleteLooks eerie. Watch out for the glittery vampire! :)
ReplyDeleteLove photos like this.
Haven't had the chance to shoot in the middle of the mists. Always scared of my camera moisting.
I admit it, I'm hooked at 60, read the books, watched the films, I've enjoyed it all. In the books, Pt.2 dragged, but it's movie counterpart was much better. Batter up! Let's finish this thing.
ReplyDeleteCool post, literally and figuratively. I can almost feel the fog.
ReplyDeleteHi, I am from Nueva Vizcaya but I never been to this place. How do you go there Sir?
ReplyDeletei like the misty shots. i like fog.
ReplyDeleteI get the ethereal nature of the picture without the dread of the supernatural.
ReplyDeleteSuch beauty tucked away in Nueva Vizcaya -- why am I not surprised? I am with you on the Twilight series, but I can imagine it as a backdrop for films like that. Just shows how beautiful our country is. That first pic is amazing. I wanna go there... :)
ReplyDeleteYour photos are magical and so is the place! I can almost feel the damp fog. I really love the name of your Blog.
ReplyDeleteWhat fabulous shots! Love that magical mist.
ReplyDeleteThese are just awesome shots and I am sure you and your friends had a great time there.
ReplyDeleteWhat a foggy feeling haha.
ReplyDeleteStunning picturesque images fro your trip.
ReplyDeleteThis is truly beautiful - a forest in the mist is a magical place. You know more about Twilight than me, I wasn't even aware about a Team Bella or Team Edward!
ReplyDeleteAng galing ng pictures mo! I agree with your sister. That place resembles that of a forested area where Edward hunts. Though I am not really into forests and mountaineering for that matter, I appreciate people who have the confidence to climb these areas and just share them with others. Ang sarap puntahan ng lugar na iyan. Mas lalo na kung nandiyan si Edward. I wanna meet him and have him bite me. LOL
ReplyDeleteI think it's beautiful...but I do feel there's something magical in the photo. :)
ReplyDeleteA beautiful image!
ReplyDeleteAt first look akala ko Baguio pero hindi pala. I am sure ang lamig-lamig dyan.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your Sis. Mukha nga siyang sa Forks! (The setting of Twilight) Hehe. So how do non-backpakers like me get to enjoy that scenery? Does the place have any lodges for tourists? :)
ReplyDeleteTeam Edward!
Wow! I love twilight and coming fr NV i love d idea that N. V. is compared to forks. Im glad u like our place.
