Isla Capones Seascape |
Almost eight years ago, I started a personal-travel blog and named it "Lawstude's Journeys". It was then that I got acquainted online with fellow "travel bloggers" whom back then wasn't really that many. Facebook is barely known then so the best way to connect with fellow travelers was through leaving comments in each others blog.
First Trip with Dong Ho of Eskapo |
One of the bloggers I got acquainted to was Dong Ho who was known back then as "The Dong". Thru exchanges of comments, he invited me to join his brothers at Lingkod ng Panginoon in Capones Island in Zambales. Being a wanderlust as I am, I need no further convincing to join them. The travel date was set and everything seemed fine... until an impending typhoon joined the party.
Enchanted Thorns |
I can still vividly remember the trip because it was not one of the easiest. What was supposed to be a 30-minute boat ride turned into a couple of hours because of an approaching typhoon. There were times when the waves grew taller than our boat and there were times where our boat was riding one. Scary indeed that we could only hope that it would get better when we go back from Isla Capones the day after.
Brackish Flow |
Good thing that the rain was not that strong yet so we were able to pitch our tent but as soon as we were set-up, the rain started falling. So, the plan of sleeping underneath the stars turned-out to be a night of cramping into wet tents as strong winds playfully.. err, forcefully play with us.
Splash Island |
In the morning, we hope to play by the beach but could only watch strong waves splash on the stony shores so there goes the swimming part.
Abandoned Structure |
But it's not all epic fail , because we were able to see the island on a different kind of mood - gloomy skies, wet grass, endless streams and slippery rocks among others.
Strips of White Sand Beach |
And explore the island we did, amidst slippery paths and occasional rain showers. We took caution thou not to go near the shore because the waves were relentlessly strong specially on the southern side of the island.
Ang Mga Lingkod ng Panginoon |
Nevertheless, it was a fun and enjoyable trip because that was the first of the many travels I will share with a friend who would soon be one of the most popular travel blogger of the Philippines... By the way, the boat ride from Capones Island back to Pundaquit was even worse.
This is my 3rd post on the series "Throwback Trip Thursday". Throwback Trip Thursday or "TTT" is an offshoot of the famous Throwback Thursday meme. TTT will feature some of my favorite and memorable trips which I have featured in this blog's eight years of existence. This may also include recollection of the first time I have done a trip with fellow bloggers and some other nostalgic pieces on Lawstude's archives.
Love the moody atmosphere. It gives the island a great feel and look.

ReplyDeletetagal na pala nun. hehehe... saya balikan.
ReplyDeletetama, sana kumpleto uli.
Deleteano na ba nangyari sa plano natin bumalik dito haha :)
This place I heard has truly big waves because it is fronting Pacific Ocean. Hope to go there on a backpack trip too.
ReplyDeletethat is right kiko, the waves are normally high during regular days and imagine how higher it could get on bad weather.
DeleteIf I would be in your place, I wouldn't think twice either. The opportunity to add another escapade in my list is just exciting.
