Negros Occidental : One Morning in Bacolod City

Water Fountain Fronting San Sebastian Cathedral

Followers of Philippine festivals know this place for Masskara Festival. Yes, that festival that boasts highly energetic dance movement on the street with performers wearing that all-too-smiling colorful masks aka "masskara". Come October, Bacolod City hogs the spotlight and every nook and cranny of Bacolod is adorned with colorful masks with lanterns and just about any ornaments you can think of to boot.

Iloilo: Angelicum in Lights

Lights and the holiday season are like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie - they look good together. Just imagine lights without anything else and you have something that is bland. Or imagine holiday season without lights and you have a misnomer.

Marinduque - A Preview

The Morions of Marinduque
This is a preview of my photo-adventure in a sleepy little island province which is often eclipsed by its neighbors' heavily marketed popularity. A hidden bounty of both white sand and coral beaches, clear and radiant waters, century old churches and ancestral homes, caves and islands that collectively comes alive every Easter for the quirky Moriones Festival.

A Birthday Post

It is almost midnight and in just few ticks of a clock, it will be my birthday. Sleep is a stranger and it is when the surrounding universe is dead that thoughts come alive. Another year older. What have changed? Definitely a lot. This is probably the first time that I will celebrate my birthday away from home. I don’t even know if celebrate is a proper word because I will spend this birthday alone.

Then suddenly, in the stillness of the night, thoughts reverberate…

Kalilangan Festival 2010

Festivities abound in the Islands Philippines, from Luzon to Visayas to Mindanao. I am a frequent spectator of Luzon's Panagbenga Festival having observed the parades in the last two years. This year however, my lakwatsero brothers Dong Ho, Scud and Jon decided to do a Davao City-General Santos trip. And in this trip, we were fortunate enough to witness the Kadsagayan Street Dancing in General Santos' Kalilangan Festival.

A Weekend of Everything That Flies (2 of 2)

Part 2 of this series take-off at dusk when light and dark meet. Paragliders from different part of the world perform areal acrobatics on Mount Arayat backdrop. And as if your eyes ain't entertained enough, the street dancers of Candaba Pampanga lighted the ground with a performance lifted from their recent Ibon-Ebon Festival. It was truly a visual treat for everyone as the colors blend in with the fading light.

A Weekend of Everything That Flies (1 of 2)

There is something in the air that day... and I don't mean those cheesy stuff of emotional rides and anticipations. But... literally, there is something, err, a lot of things in the air that day.

Let The Flowers Bloom - Panagbenga 2010

Other than being a love month, February ushers in one of my favorite Philippine festivities - the Panagbenga Flower Festival in Baguio. Now on its 15th year and amply themed "Celebrating 15 Years of Festival Excellence", this year's festivity promises to be bigger and grander as it aims to solicit more cheers from the crowd.
